Apply principles of human growth and development throughout life

This lesson uses a real-world context (planning a field day) that is relevant and meaningful for elementary students. You scaffold learning by including the following: advanced organizer, teacher modeling, guided and independent practice, and maintenance activities

This artifact demonstrates Indicator 1 because it was designed around the developmental needs of fourth-grade learners. The lesson builds on prior knowledge of multiplication, measurement, and division while providing appropriate scaffolding through modeling, guided practice, and independent practice. The real-world field day context helps students connect new concepts to experiences that are meaningful and age-appropriate. This artifact is from CISP 520.

Support learners with special needs in the least restrictive environment

This lesson includes scaffolds, accommodations, and contingency plans. Students with varying learning needs can participate in the same classroom activities and supports will allow students to access grade-level content while remaining with peers in the general education setting.

This lesson demonstrates strategies for supporting learners with special needs within the least restrictive environment. The lesson includes accommodations, scaffolds, and differentiated supports that allow all students to participate in the learning activities. By providing multiple ways for students to access content and demonstrate understanding, the lesson promotes inclusion while maintaining high expectations for all learners. This artifact is from CISP 520.

Address the needs of diverse learners

Effective instruction requires intentional responsiveness to the multifaceted identities of every student. This artifact contains strategies that support diverse learners, and those strategies are built into the original artifact rather than added afterward. Module 9 reflection discusses varying communication styles, self-advocacy, instructional accommodations, peer interaction, and supporting students with disabilities through multiple means of communication.

This artifact was completed in CI 520 and demonstrates my ability to address the needs of diverse learners through responsive communication practices and differentiated instructional supports. In this reflection, I discuss creating a classroom environment where different communication styles are accepted and valued, while providing multiple ways for students to participate and express their understanding. I also describe strategies such as adjusting language, using visual supports, providing structured peer interactions, and teaching self-advocacy skills. These approaches help ensure that learners with varied communication abilities, language needs, and learning differences have equitable access to instruction and opportunities for success. The artifact reflects my commitment to creating an inclusive classroom that values and supports learner diversity.
